On the banks of the River Tungabhadra is Hampi, an erstwhile seat of power and capital of the once mighty Vijayanagar Empire. Ruins of a lost empire and monuments that are still standing are a mute testimony of an era bygone. Musical pillars and the stone chariot at the Vittala Temple Complex and the renowned Virupaksha Temple that dominates the sky scape are some highlights of this rock-faced site where even stones spawn stories. Just 15 Km from Hampi is the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary that boasts of a healthy population of sloth bears. The rugged terrain is ideal for these animals that feed off wild fruits, termites and honey and take refuge in caves and crevices. The Sloth Bear Heritage Resort set in rustic natural environs adjoining the sanctuary strikes a chord with nature. At Hampi, one can taste a heady concoction of adventure and awe inspiring creations garnished with heritage trails and nature walks.

20 comfortable twin-bed cottages equipped with modern amenities are spread across the 33 - acre property dotted with shrubs and rocky outcrops. Apart from an air-conditioned bedroom and a spacious attached bath, each cottage has porch that offers spectacular vistas of the undulating landscape. The cottages have donned the colours of the earth and blend seamlessly with the pristine natural setting. Their thatched roofs help in keeping the interiors cool. The resort shares a fence with the adjoining Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary. Special efforts have been taken to preserve the natural scrub vegetation and grasslands that attract birds. |

Food at Slot Bear Resort is homely and delicious. A buffet includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine. We will be only too pleased to serve the indigenous food on special demand. |

With plentiful thorn scrub vegetation and boulders strewn across its contours, the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is home to many free ranging sloth bears. You can enjoy a session of 'bear watching' from the watchtower perched atop a hillock. The sanctuary is also home to hyenas, wild boars, black-naped hares, pangolins, porcupines, jackals and leopards. The 8 Km drive through the forest presents an opportunity to sight several species of birds including endemic species like painted spur fowl and yellow-throated bulbuls and dry land specialties like sand grouse, quails, Sirkeer Malkohas and stone-curlews. Peafowl are aplenty. |
